Active Grants/Awards
We would like to thank our benefactors for supporting our scientific endeavors to develop, progress, and make treatment for sickle cell disease (SCD) more accessible and equitable.
National Lung, Blood, and Heart Institute
5R01HL136622-04. This proposal seeks to develop new strategies for the treatment of SCD by investigating the link between red blood cell (RBC) mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and RBC mitochondrial oxygen consumption with sickle cell formation and hemolysis.
3R01HL136622-04S1. A diversity supplement to the parent R01 listed above that expands the scope of the project to an extended range of populations such as pediatrics.
National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke
1R21AT012304-01. This study will help identify biomarkers to help clinicians predict which individuals are at risk for increased pain and develop new molecular targeted therapies to reduce pain by understanding the link between the specific RBC autophagy proteins and pain severity in the SCD animal model.
The Innovative Science Accelerator (ISAC)
Funding provided to evaluate red blood cell mitochondrial DNA as a biomarker in SCD.
John A. Watson Faculty Scholarship
This grant will provide critical support for three years to allow the Rivers Lab to continue their research and clinical work with SCD.
Philips Foundation Grant
This grant is given to the Rivers Lab to help improve the lives of people and communities through our innovative scientific research.
