Hart Horneman

Staff Research Associate

Hart started as a Staff Research Associate in the Dallman Lab at the University of California in 2005.  Since Dr. Dallman retired, she has worked with the Ballard Lab at UCSF's Department of Pediatrics and served as Lab Manager for Dr. Fleiszig at Berkeley's School of Optometry. Currently, she has a split appointment with the Rivers' Lab and the DOP. In her off hours, she enjoys reading and baking, and her free time is dictated by her German Shepard.

Education: Associate of Science in Mathematics, Mendocino Junior College; B.S. in Biochemistry, San Francisco State University; B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology, San Francisco State University

Yaw Ansong-Ansongton, PhD

Yaw is a physician-scientist from Ghana who obtained his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco. Experiencing the health disparities for sickle cell disease, such as expensive diagnostics and a lack of treatments, Yaw seeks to combine his passion for engineering and medicine to advance health equity.

Education: Ph.D. in Bioengineering, University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco; M.D., University of Cape Coast; M.S., University of New Haven.

 

 

Mikail "Mikey" Alejandro

Biography: Mikey has a degree in Chemistry from the University of San Francisco. Mikey's project explored the role of mitochondrial retention in red blood cells of pediatric sickle cell disease populations. Mikey hopes to matriculate into a physician-scientist program within the upcoming years. In his spare time he plays bass for the Filipinx-American rapper Ruby Ibarra and her band the Balikbayans.

Education: B.S. in Chemistry (Medicinal and Synthetic Concentration), University of San Francisco

 

Nebeyat "Nebe" Zekaryas

Biography: Nebe was a student at Cal-State University, East Bay, studying public health and pursuing a career in nursing. Nebe first joined the Rivers Lab in 2021 as a summer intern through the UCSF SSRP program. She spent the following year as a student intern in the lab and returned in summer 2022 as an SSRP participant.
